Obituary Condolences

SHAFTSBURY -- Funeral services for Ellen P. Dickie were held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, with the Rev. Deborah Estey, pastor of the Shaftsbury Methodist Church officiating.

During the service the song “When I Get to Where I’m Going” was sung in Mrs. Dickie’s memory. Words of remembrance were offered by a son Dan Dickie and by three grandchildren, Sarah Dickie, Abby Dickie and Benjamin Dickie.

Bearers were three grandsons, Benjamin, Aaron and Darrick Dickie, a brother, Leonard Cross and two family friends, Patrick Kinney and Rodney Hall.

The funeral home was filled to capacity during both the visiting hours and the funeral service. Among those in attendance were several fans of harness racing from throughout the area whom were associated with the Dickie family at area race tracks over the years.

Burial took place in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. Estey offering the committal prayers. Following the committal prayers the “Indian Prayer” was read by Ellen’s daughter, Wendy Dickie.

Following the services a reception was held at the home of Dan and Cathy Dickie on East Road in Bennington.

Mrs. Dickie, wife of Edwin “Bud” Dickie, a resident of Reservoir Road, Shaftsbury, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2007 at her residence

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.
