Obituary Condolences

SUNDERLAND -- A memorial service to celebrate the life of Ellery R. Lawrence was held Tuesday morning, Nov. 30, at the East Arlington Federated Church.

The Rev. Thomas Truscott, interim minister, conducted the service. Scripture readings were offered by Ellery’s daughter, Maryanne Sanders. “Prayer of a Clown” was read by Mr. Lawrence’s granddaughter Erin.

Music was under the direction of organist Douglas Bischoff who led the congregation in the singing of the hymns “Faith Of Our Fathers” and “Onward Christian Soldiers.” The hymn “A Mighty Fortress” was sung by soloist Rosemary Button. The Rev. Truscott led the congregation in reciting Psalm 23 in unison. Words of remembrance were offered by many of Mr. Lawrence’s friends and family with a special tribute and words of reflection offered by Ellery’s daughter-in-law, Kathryn Lawrence.

Burial with military honors was followed by a time of fellowship in Bailey Hall in Evergreen Cemetery, where Rev. Truscott offered burial rites and committal prayers. The American flag was presented to Mr. Lawrence’s daughter Maryanne by Harned-Fowler VFW Post 6471 color guard members. Taps was sounded by Maurice Rancourt.

Ellery R. Lawrence, a lifelong resident of Sunderland, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington.

Arrangements were under the care of Hanson-Walbridge Arlington Chapel, Route 7A, Arlington.
