Elva L. Fisk 1921 - 2008 NORTH HOOSICK, N.Y. - Elva Leona Fisk, 86, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2008 unexpectedly at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vt. Born Oct. 1, 1921 in the town of Hoosick, daughter of Arba J and Mabel Kautz Brenenstuhl, she graduated from Hoosick Falls High School and Troy Business College. She devoted her life to her family and home. During World War II, she served her community as a Civil Defense volunteer. She also volunteered in a nursery school for underprivileged children in the community. She was a Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Fisk was active in the TC class and choir of the United Presbyterian Church. An avid and knowledgeable bird watcher, she was a supporter of many environmental conservation causes. She also traveled extensively in Europe and the United States. She leaves her husband, Ira S. Fisk of North Hoosick; a daughter, Jennifer M. Fisk of Bar Harbor, Maine; a son I. Theodore Fisk (Rose) of Naperville, Ill.; a brother, J. Arba Brenenstuhl of Hoosick Falls; her grandsons, Chip Applegate (Jill) of Plymouth, Maine, Bryan Applegate of Old Town, Maine, Timothy Applegate (Tatiana) of Yeketerinburg, Russia, and Darren Applegate (Shyrle) of Bangor, Maine, and great-grandchildren, Jordan, Gavin and Leona. She was predeceased by her sisters, Barbara Corbett, Beaulah McFadden, and brother Willis Brenenstuhl. FUNERAL NOTICE - At her request, there will be no services but at a later date her ashes will be scattered in a favorite site in Maine. Donations may be made in her memory and that of her beloved German Shepherd Leisel to the Second Chance Animal Shelter, 6870 VT Rt. 7A, Shaftsbury, VT. 05262.
