Emil Julius Iwashko 1926-2012 Emil Julius Iwashko, 86 died peacefully in his sleep, following a short illness, at Regency Grande Nursing Home, Dover, N.J., on Saturday, June 9, 2012. Born in Morristown, N.J., in 1926, he also lived in Netcong, N.J. His business career included: a lab technician, Mikro-Pul (formerly Pulverizing Machinery), Chatham, N.J.; a Special Police Officer, Morristown Police Dept., Morristown, N.J.; and a Security Guard, Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown, N.J. Mr. Iwashko served as a "Specialist P, (VM) Second Class" in the United States Navy, Pacific Theatre, Word War II. He was awarded the American Theatre Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal and the Victory Medal. He was a member of V.F.W. Post #2519, Rockaway, N.J. He was a member of the Garden Statesman Senior Drum and Bugle Corp, Dover, N.J., and the Avengers Senior Drum and Bugle Corp, Kenvil, N.J. He was Director of the Hilltoppers Junior Drum and Bugle Corp, Livingston N.J., and the Lucky Ladies Junior Drum and Bugle Corp, Wharton, N.J. He was also a member of the Elks, Parsippany, N.J. His main love in life was playing Santa Claus for over 40 years at Santaland, Morristown Green, Morristown, N.J.; and at many other organizational functions in northern New Jersey. The highlight of his Santa Claus career was playing Santa Claus at the White House, Washington, DC, in 1992 at the invitation of President George and Barbara Bush. He is predeceased by his parents, Julius and Anna (Kuzik) Iwashko; his wife, Dorothea (Wesp): his sister, Anastasia Olga Cramer; his brothers, Borys Iwashko and Wasyl Iwashko. He is survived by his son, George Iwashko, of Netcong, N.J.; his daughter, Marin Iwashko, of Pownal, Vermont; his grandsons, Gregory Iwashko of Netcong, N.J., and Thomas Iwashko, and his fiance, Theresa Gannon, of Lake Hiawatha, N.J., his two nephews and many cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE: Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2012, 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dangler Funeral Home, Corner of Speedwell Ave & Glenbrook Rd., Morris Plains, NJ 07950. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 12 noon at the Dangler Funeral Home, Morris Plains, NJ 07950. Entombment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Martin Luther King Ave., Morristown, N.J. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute, in his memory, to the Regency Grande Nursing Home (Activities Department), 65 North Sussex St., Dover, NJ 07801.
