MONROE, Mass. -- Emil Joseph “Sonny” Janovsky, 69, of Depot Street, Monroe, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, Sept. 19, 2006, at the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born in Worcester on Aug. 30, 1937, a son of the late Emil and Mary (Voller) Janovsky. He attended schools in Readsboro, Vt., and Whitingham, Vt.

In his younger years he was employed by the town of Readsboro, the Readsboro Chairshop, Barkus Excavating and Eiler Brothers Co. in Readsboro, Vt. He then was employed at the Deerfield Glassine Co., also known as Deerfield Specialties Co. in Monroe Bridge. He was last employed at the James River Paper Co. and later at the Curtis Fine Paper Co. in Adams for many years retiring in 2002.

He was a member of the Stamford Community Church in Stamford, Vt. He served on the Monroe Bridge School Board for many years. He always enjoyed his family and children, hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and working in his yard. He also was the raft builder for his children’s swimming lessons in the freezing cold water at Chilson’s Pond. He was a Scout Leader for many years and his voice could always be heard cheering for his boys at their Little League Baseball games. After his retirement he enjoyed making woodcrafts, going to the Steeple Cats Baseball games and volunteering at the Grace Christian School in Bennington, Vt.

Survivors, include his wife of 49 years: Laura (Tatro) Janovsky whom he married Feb. 23, 1957 at the Readsboro, Vt., Baptist Church; two sons: Larry Janovsky Sr. and his wife, Leigh, of Warwick, R.I., and Dennis Janovsky and his wife, Gayle; one daughter, Donna Rioux, and her husband, Joseph, of Pownal, Vt.; seven grandchildren, Larry Janovsky Jr., Mandy Benoit, Michelle and Hunter Janovsky, David and Derrick Rondeau and Spencer Rioux; two great-grandchildren, Alivia Benoit and Nathan Rondeau; two brothers, Pete Janovsky of Searsburg, Vt. and Stanley Janovsky of Whitingham, Vt.; three sisters, Helen Reynolds of Whitingham, Vt., Betty Lou Sucharzewski, of Wilmington, Vt., and Ruth LaPointe, of Whitingham, Vt., and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Emil Joseph “Sonny” Janovsky will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Stamford Community Church in Stamford, Vt. with the Rev. William Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Village Cemetery, Readsboro, Vt. Calling Hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA, are Friday from 5 to8 p.m. Memorial Donations are suggested for the Stamford Community Church or the Grace Christian School in Bennington, Vt. through the funeral home.
