Obituary Condolences

READSBORO -- Mrs. Emilia C. Dassatti, 90, a resident of Jarvis Hill, died peacefully Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mandy and Rudy Comai of Readsboro.

She was born in Vigo Cavedine (Austria) Italy, the daughter of the late Giulio and Maria (Comai) Eccher, on Nov. 19, 1913. She received her education in Vigo Cavedine.

She married Lino John Dassatti on Oct. 10, 1938 at Saint Joachim Catholic Church in Readsboro. Mr. Dassatti died in April 1982.

Emilia was devoted to her family but she always put God and church first in her life. For a time she sang in the choir and even sang requiem Masses with her son, Vincent, at the organ. As a member of the Saint Anne Society at Saint Joachim Church, she made novenas and participated in fund-raisers such as the annual bazaar. She loved working with her hands, whether sewing, braiding rugs or knitting adorable baby sweaters and mittens. It gave her great joy to crochet an afghan for each of her 14 grandchildren. Emilia loved to bake, and no family gathering went without her signature apple pies. Her family called her Noni, and over the years, she became known as Noni to all who knew her.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Vincent and Rita Dassatti of Bennington; three daughters and sons-in-law, Arline and Michael Spadafora of Windsor, Conn., Ann and Piergiorgio Bolognani of Norwalk, Conn. and Mandy and Rudy Comai of Readsboro; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; a brother, Fabio, and his wife Nina Eccher of Pittsfield, Mass.; a sister-in-law, Amy Eccher of White River Junction; and 17 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, Arthur, Richard, Silvio and Girardo Eccher, and two sisters, Yolanda Pankievich and Giulia Maselli.

The liturgy of Christian death and burial will be offered Thursday, Sept. 30, at 11 a.m. at Saint Joachim Catholic Church in Readsboro. The burial will take place in the family lot in the Village Cemetery in Readsboro. Friends may call at Saint Joachim Catholic Church on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. A prayer service and rosary will be offered at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Emilia may be made to either Saint Joachim Catholic Church, Saint Anne’s Society of Saint Joachim or the VNA of Vermont and New Hampshire through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
