Obituary Condolences

READSBORO -- Eric Rodney Holland, 53, a resident of Main Street, died Thursday morning, March 22, 2006, at North Adams Regional Hospital.

Eric was born in Bennington on Sept. 5, 1952. He was the son of the late Earle S. and Thelma (Berard) Holland Sr. He grew up in Readsboro, where he received his early education. He was a 1970 graduate of Whitingham High School. Eric worked as a house painter for many years and also at the Deerfield Glassine in Monroe Bridge, Mass. He worked for Eiler Brothers of Readsboro as a truck driver for several years. Throughout his life he was an accomplished musician, playing the guitar with many bands in the area, in Colorado and California. He and his brothers Buddy and Stretch formed the band “The Holland Brothers” and wrote and performed many original songs which they recorded.

Eric was a member of The First Baptist Church of Readsboro. He was very mechanically inclined and liked to repair anything he could. He was also very proficient at solving crossword puzzles and was a trivia buff.

He was first married to Carla Baker; they have one son, Timothy. He leaves his wife, Jane Holland of Meaker, Colo.; two daughters, Naomi Stella Holland of Denver, and Antionette Holland Gonzales of Meaker, Colo.; two brothers, Earle S. Holland and wife, Mildred Holland Jr., of Morgan and Winter Haven, Fla., Elwin and wife, Brenda Holland, of Bennington; a sister, Valerie and husband, Allen Eldred, of Winter Haven; an aunt, Rose Stone of Jacksonville; two uncles, Phil Davis of North Adams, Mass., and Gerald Bowen of Bennington; two grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his longtime companion, Julia Holland.

A service to celebrate the life of Eric R. Holland will be held at the First Baptist Church of Readsboro on Tuesday, March 28, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. John Brigham, pastor, officiating.
