Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Erich Strohschein, 78, died Sunday afternoon, Aug. 3, 2003 at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.

Born in Rovno, Ukraine on March 20, 1925, he was the son of Gustav and Albertine (Nurenberg) Strohschein.

Mr. Strohschein served in the German Army during World War II as a translator. He was married to Adeline Selent in Germany on March 20, 1949; they emigrated to Canada in 1953 and then relocated to the United States in 1971, settling in Indiana.

He and his wife moved to Bennington to be nearer their daughter Hertha. Throughout his life Mr. Strohschein had worked in many capacities as a laborer and farmer, including a welder, railroad worker and in a mining foundry. He was a very spiritual man who enjoyed studying the bible. He was a linguist and was proficient in several languages. He enjoyed playing chess, playing the violin, working with honeybees and traveling to different countries.

He is survived by his wife, Adeline Strohschein of Bennington; two sons, George Strohschein of Akron, Ind., and Carl Strohschein of Reno, Nev.; four daughters, Wilhelmine Sante of Montreal, Hertha Colbath of Bennington, Rosa Osgood of Anchorage, Alaska and Liesel Miller of Lomalinda, Calif.; three brothers, Herbert Strohschein of Edmonton, Alberta, Carl Strohschein of Ontario, Calif. and Bill Strohschein of Edmonton, Alberta; two sisters, Linda Selent of Rimbey, Alberta and Herta Wittmeir of Edmonton, Alberta; 13 grandchildren, a great-grandson and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, Edward Strohschein and a sister, Erna Schmidke. Funeral services will be held on Friday morning Aug. 8 at 10 a.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home on Friday morning from 8:30 until 10 a.m.
