Ernest A. Beron 1932 - 2009 SHAFTSBURY Ernest A. Beron, 76, husband of the late Mary Theresa D. Beron, a resident of Shaftsbury, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at his residence following a long illness. Born in Pittsfield, Mass., July 17, 1932, son of Ernest E. and Dorothy J. Brooks Beron. Ernie received his education in the Pittsfield schools. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, Ernie served in the Navy from 1950 until 1954. Ernie and Theresa were married Sept. 17, 1955, in the Bronx. Theresa died April 8, 2008. Ernie began his banking career at the Berkshire Bank and Trust Company in Pittsfield in 1956. He held banking positions in data processing in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York City and Rhode Island until retiring in 1988 due to a disability. At the time of his retirement Ernie was serving as Vice President and MIS Director of the Bank of New England in Rhode Island. During his career Ernie served as Charter President of the New England Computer Users Group and Charter President of the North American Financial Computer Users Group. His interests were in coin and stamp collecting, crafts, bird watching and flower gardening. Prior to moving to Shaftsbury Ernie and Theresa resided in Barrington, R.I., where Ernie was a member of the both the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Since coming to Vermont they had been daily communicants of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington where Ernie also served as a lector. He leaves a son, Michael Beron; a daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Patrick O'Brien of Westwood, Mass., a son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Julie Beron of Westborough, Mass.; six grandchildren, Colin, Katie, Kelsey, Connor, Justin and Daniel; three sisters, Ruth McCormick of Pittsfield, Evelyn Torrey of Peru, Massachusetts and Carol Brooks; a brother, Thomas Brooks and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ernie was predeceased by a brother, Harry Brooks. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 9:15 a.m. with a prayer and from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington at 10:00 a.m. where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered. Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. Burial will take place in the family lot in St. Johns Cemetery.
