GOOSE CREEK, S.C. -- Esther M. “Cherry” Bohne, 66, died on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, at the Heartland Health Care Center in Hanahan, following a long and courageous battle against cancer. She was born on Feb. 22, 1940, in Springfield, Vt., the youngest daughter of Paul W. Bohne and Ethel V. Bohne. She lived in Bennington, Vt., and Burlington, Vt., before moving to Goose Creek.

Cherry attended Northfield School for Girls in Northfield, Mass., and the University of Vermont. She worked as a design engineer in Vermont and South Carolina.

She is survived by her sister Betty B. Douglas of Shoreham; her husband, Robert; her sister, Marian Andrew of Bennington and her husband, Andy; her brother Jim Bohne of Byhalia, Miss. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Muriel Bohne; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Paul W. Bohne Jr., and by her sister-in-law, Josephine Bohne, Jim’s wife.

Cherry was an avid fan of the Charleston, S.C., Stingrays hockey team, devoting many hours to team support activities. She also enjoyed golfing, NASCAR, gecko and bird watching, pets, music, movies, cards and her many friends. Cherry’s family is very grateful to Melanie Shope, a dear friend, for her dedicated care of Cherry during her illness.
