Esther P. Brown 1925-2008 HARDWIVK: The Reverend Esther P. Brown died on February 13, after a brief illness. Born August 3, 1925 in Plainfield, Conn., daughter of Amasa and Edna Richardson Pierc, she attended high school in Danielson, Conn; college at Colby Sawyer, Mount Holyoke and the University of New Hampshire. Theological training was at Duke Divinity School, North Carolina, Yale Divinity School and General Theological Seminary, New York. Her early career was as a member of the Department of Christian Education of the Episcopal Church and editor of the Seabury Series Sunday School Curriculum, and Director of Christian Education at Holy Trinity Church and the Church of the Heavenly Rest, New York City. She was ordained as a Priest of the Episcopal Church in 1984, and as such served as Vicar and then Rector of St. John the Baptist Church in Hardwick, and Vicar of St. John the Evangelist Church, Needles, Cailf. She leaves her husband, Averell Brown, and son, Philip Brown, of Hardwick; her daughter , Alice Brown, of Studio City, Cailf; brothers The Revs. Luther Pierce, Cummington, Mass., Milton Pierce, Toccoa, Ga, and Richard Pierce, Bloomfield, Conn; and grandchildren, nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to North Country Animal League, Morrisville, VT. 05661 or Episcopal Relief and Development Fund, 815 Fifth Ave., New York, NY 10017 A funeral eucharist was held at St. John the Baptist Church, Hardwick on Saturday, The Rev. Al Stefanik and the The Rev. Susan Tobias, officiating. Burial will be at the Pierce family plot, Brooklyn, Conn at a later date.
