Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Ethel S. Babcock, 100, widow of Harold I. Babcock, a former resident of Morgan Street, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington.

Born in Bennington May 12, 1907, she was the daughter of the late George and Grace (Wallen) Smith. She received her education in the Bennington schools and was a 1926 graduate of the former Bennington High School.

Mr. & Mrs. Babcock were married in Bennington on July 8, 1929. Mr. Babcock died Dec. 2, 1984.

Her first employment was in the office of Fienberg’s store in Bennington and later at Bennington Garage. From 1950 until her retirement, she was active with her husband in the operation of Babcock Electric and Television Sales and Service.

Prior to entering the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation, Mrs. Babcock resided for several years at Fairwinds Community Care Home in North Bennington.

Survivors include a son, George Babcock of Bennington; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by two daughters, Eleanor Danforth and Linda Babcock and by her siblings.

At Mrs. Danforth’s request, private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Entombment will take place at Park Lawn Chapel with burial to be in the spring at the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
