Obituary Condolences

MANCHESTER -- Ethel E. Whittaker, 89, a resident of Manchester for 10 years, died suddenly Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

She was born March 12, 1915, in Cape Cod, Mass., the daughter of Victor and Christina Leeman. She grew up on Cape Cod and graduated from West Barnstable High School.

She was married to George Whittaker. Mr. Whittaker died in 1974. Ethel worked for many years for an unemployment office in Scotch Plains, N.J., and Bambergers in Plainfield, N.J. Later in life the Whittaker’s lived in Boca Raton and Hollywood, Fla. In her youth, Ethel was an avid basketball player and later she enjoyed the craft of knitting.

Ethel was the last of nine siblings. She is survived by her son, George Whittaker of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; a daughter, Christine Heacock of Pittstown, N.J.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

There are no services scheduled at this time. Arrangement are under the care of Brewster Funeral Home in Manchester.
