Obituary Condolences

POWNAL -- Ethel “June” Kauppi, 90, a longtime resident of North Pownal Road in Pownal Center, died on Friday morning, March 25, 2005, at her residence following a short illness.

She was born in Williamstown on June 1, 1914 and was the daughter of the late George and Maude (Monte) Rounds. She received her education in Williamstown schools and is a graduate of Williamstown High School. She married Sanfri Kauppi on December 25, 1933 in South Williamstown. Mr. Kauppi died in 1996. Mrs. Kauppi had worked at the Red Door Inn in Pownal where she had been the head of housekeeping. She was a member of the Pownal Senior Center, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Pownal Center Fire Department, and the Pownal Community Church. Mrs. Kauppi enjoyed quilting, crocheting, cooking and baking.

Survivors include her son, Steve and his wife Faye of Pownal Center; her daughter, Sylvia Hill and husband Aldis of Bennington; granddaugters Angie Rawlings and husband Rod of Pownal Center and Pam Goodhue and husband Kevin of Bennington; her grandson, Terry Hill and his wife Wanda of Bennington; her brother, Paul Rounds of Claremont, Okla.; a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Rounds of Mt. Dora, Fla.; great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Sanfri; daughter, Martha; and brothers Charles, Daniel, Sam, Earl, and Dodd Rounds.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning, March 30, 2005, at 10 a.m. at the Southlawn Cemetery in Williamstown with the Rev. Eugene Kemp, pastor of the Pownal Community Church, officiating. There are no calling hours scheduled.

Memorials in her honor may be made to the VNA & Hospice of Bennington or the Pownal Rescue Squad through the George M. Hopkins Funeral Home, 61-67 Spring St., Williamstown, MA 01267.
