Ethel H. Santarcangelo 1921-2011 BENNINGTON Ethel H. Santarcangelo, 90, a resident of Woodridge Drive in Berlin, Vt., and formerly of Monument Circle in Bennington, passed away Saturday December 17, 2011 at Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin. Ethel was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on April 28, 1921 the daughter of Herbert Ernst Pfalzgraf and Ethel Polly (Bouplon). As a child she spent summers at the family's farm in Shaftsbury Vermont. She graduated from Bayridge High School in 1939 and the Pratt Institute in 1942. She worked as a dietician at Cohoes Hospital and that is where she met her future husband and life long friend Salvatore "Sal" Santarcangelo. Ethel and Sal married in 1944 and they moved to Bennington in 1949. Ethel became a full time mother to her four children. Ethel was a member of the Shaker Antique doll Club, which was part of the United Federation of Doll Clubs, and achieved the skill level of "Master Doll Artist" for doll making, including painting, sewing and costuming. She traveled Internationally as a judge for doll making and also taught doll making in the United States and Canada. Ethel enjoyed art, sewing, knitting and had an affinity for all kinds of animals. Ethel frequently commented that she had lived a wonderful and blessed life. Ethel is survived by her children; James H. Santarcangelo and his wife Barbara, John T. Santarcangelo and his wife Pamella, Jeffrey P. Santarcangelo and his wife Lin, all of Bennington and Suzanne Santarcangelo and her husband Peter Merriman of Duxbury, Vt., nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Salvatore who passed away in 2006. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Ethel will be held Tuesday December 20, 2011 at 1pmat Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home 213 West Main Street Bennington, Vermont. Rev. Michael Morneault will officiate. Interment will follow in the family lot in Grandview Cemetery in North Bennington. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday December 20, 2011 from noon to 1 p.m., one hour prior to the service.
