Eugene A. "Gene" Jolivette 1935 - 2009 BENNINGTON, VT Mr. Eugene A. "Gene" Jolivette, 74, a resident of Bank St., Bennington, Vt., and Oviedo, Fla., and a former resident of Manchester, Vt., died Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington following a long illness. He was born in Bennington, Vt., March 23, 1935. He was the son of Kenneth C. and Marion Towslee Jolivette Sr. He received his education in Bennington and was a graduate of the former Bennington High School class of 1953. Gene served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was stationed in England for a couple of years, and also in Africa, Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Westover, Mass. In earlier years Gene owned and operated the "Sand Trap" in Manchester, Vt. He later was employed as a bartender at Garlic John's in Manchester and the American Legion Post 13 in Bennington. Mr. Jolivette was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars 6471 in Manchester, Vt., and a member of the American Legion Post 69 in Arlington, Vt. Gene was an avid golfer and teamed with his brother Don in many golf tournaments. He also enjoyed singing. He leaves a daughter Janice Gilpin, and her husband, Samuel of Atlantic Beach, Fla., two granddaughters, Jessica and Marybeth Gilpin of Atlantic Beach; a sister Thelma Coley and her husband Henry of Sunderland, Vt.; two brothers, Donald Jolivette and his wife Thayer of Bennington and Richard Jolivette, and his wife, Edie of Mariposa, Calif.; a sister-in-law Nancie Coonz of Bennington and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother Kenneth C. Jolivette Jr. MEMORIAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be celebrated at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday July 21, 2009 at 11 a.m. with Mother Anita Schell Lambert, Rector of Saint Peter's Episcopal Church officiating. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. The burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington. If friends desire contributions in memory of Mr. Jolivette may be made to the Vermont Lung Association through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
