Eugene Kayatta

ARLINGTON Eugene Kayatta, died Monday, September 23, 2013 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center after a short illness due to a fall at home. He had returned to Vermont three years ago from Florida. He was born in Rhode Island and was 93 years old. He was a graduate of U.R.I. College of Pharmacy. He was a Naval Veteran of World War II, serving in Okinwa. He owned a drug store in Massachusetts, before purchasing Whipples' Parmacy in Manchester, Vt. He also owned Mortar and Pestle Pharmacy in Arlington. Eugene was very active in church and civic activities in and around Manchester. He also did volunteer service in Jerusalem, after the 6-Day War, working with the refugees. He is survived by his wife, of 69 years, Nelda Kayatta; daughter and son-in-law, Verna and Robert Farley; three grandsons, Bobby Farley, Liam Farley and Ben Kayatta; and one great - granddaughter, Ava Kayatta; a sister-in-law, Lee Hartline; and several loving nieces and nephews. His son, Vincent Kayatta, pre-deceased him in 2009. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral was held at Saint Paul's Catholic Church in Manchester on Saturday, September 28, 2013. The burial with military honors will take place at the Gerald B. Soloman Saratoga National Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Eugene Kayatta may be made to either VNA & Hospice at the Southwestern Vermont Health Care or Ones Favorite Charity through the office of the MAHAR and SON FUNERAL HOME 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201
