Obituary Condolences

MANCHESTER -- Eunice (Neecie) Claire Rita Allan, 93, of Manchester, and formerly of Longmeadow, Mass., passed away Thursday, April 26, 2007, at the Equinox Terrace in Manchester. She was born on July 27, 1913, in Fort Lee, N.J., the daughter of Luke and Marianna (Fay) Flanagan. She married Malcom Allan in 1936. Dr. Allan passed away in 1994.

She was a graduate of New York University, obtained her masters degree from Smith College and her doctorate in social work from Columbia University. She was a clinical social worker for many years in the Springfield, Mass., area. She was the director of treatment methods, and later director of the doctoral program at Smith College School for Social Work. She and her husband were very involved in founding the Hampden District Mental Health Clinic, and she served on numerous other boards in Greater Springfield.

She is survived by her son, Douglas Allan, of Washington, Ill.; and her daughter Wendy Merrow of Windham; grandchildren Luke, Nicholas and Adrian Johnson and Sarah and Hillary Allan. She was predeceased by her sisters, Margaret Kavanaugh, Edna Westerlund and Cora Maher.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 5, 2007, at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Longmeadow, Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Eunice’s memory be made to the Smith College School for Social Work in care of Brewster Funeral Service PO Box 885 Manchester, VT 05255.
