Evangelia "Vickie" Rallis 1915-2009 BENNINGTON Evangelia "Vickie" Felopulos Rallis, a longtime resident of Bennington, and more recently of Newton, Mass., where she resided with her daughter, Nancy Rallis, died unexpectedly, Saturday, October 10, 2009 in Bennington. Vickie was born in Bennington on May 27, 1915, daughter of the late Peter J. and Anastasia Bilionis Felopulos. Vickie received her education in Bennington and was a graduate of Bennington High School. She later attended Wellesley College where she majored in art history. Along with her family, Vickie took great pride in establishing The Fruitland, a notable food and pastry shop in Bennington. Early in her career, Vickie served as press secretary to world famous modern dancer Martha Graham at Bennington College. She also was a court stenographer and secretary to Gov. Wills of Vermont. She married James "Jimmy" Rallis and together they opened the Raleigh Restaurant which became a landmark of downtown Bennington. In 1953, they purchased the Jennings Estate in Old Bennington and transformed it into a five-star restaurant known as the Four Chimneys. Survivors include her children and their spouses, Dr. Stephen Rallis, Professor of Mathematics at Ohio State and his wife, Michelle, of Columbus, Ohio; Dr. Nancy Rallis, Professor at Boston College and her husband, T. Ross Kelly, of Newton, Mass; Diane Conover and her husband, Gib, of Providence, R.I.; and grandchildren, Matthew A. Conover, Laura F. Conover, and Alexandra Hasse. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be private. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Taxiarche Greek Orthodox Church in Watertown, Mass. If friends desire, contributions in memory of Mrs. Rallis may be made to Saint Judes Childrens Hospital through the office of the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME at 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
