Evelyn L. Cook

1921-2013 Evelyn L. Cook, 92, widow of Harold H. Cook, a former resident of Woodford and more recently of Equinox Terrace in Manchester, died peacefully Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center surrounded by her family. Born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts June 4, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Eva (Leger) LeBlanc. Evelyn received her education in the Bennington schools. Evelyn and Harold were married April 19, 1941 at Sacred Heart Church. Harold predeceased Evelyn on June 2, 1990. In earlier years, Evelyn was employed at the EZ Mills and Hoy Manufacturing in Bennington. In recent years one of Evelyn enjoyed many long weekends at her daughter's renovated condominium in the Drysdale Building that housed Hoy Manufacturing. She would frequently reminisce about her days working for Vin Hoy and would enjoy looking out the window she worked at out on South Street. Evelyn also enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Kathy DeLucco and her husband Jay of South Burlington, Carol Wendell of Westerly, Rhode Island, Richard H. Cook and his long time companion, Tish Barnes whom Evelyn enjoyed endless games of scrabble with and James A. Cook, all of Bennington; six grandchildren, Renee Cook (Justin Cash), Ambur Ballance (Jamie), Brooke Shaw (Jason), Ashley and Tyler DeLucco and Ryan Cook; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Connor; a very close cousin, Evelyn (aka Maxie) Turk of Fitchburg. Evelyn was predeceased by three brothers, Edmund, Raymond and Henry LeBlanc. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Wednesday, September 24, 2013 at 1:30 P.M. with a prayer and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 2:00 P.M. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Tuesday from 12:30 P.M. until the time of the service. Burial will take place in the family lot in Woodford Cemetery.
