1913 - 2013 BENNINGTON, VT Evelyn A. Prouty, 99, formerly of South Street in West Brattleboro died peacefully early Saturday morning, February 2, 2013 at her home at Emeritus at Fillmore Pond.

She was born in Brattleboro on December 20, 1913, daughter of John and Mildred (Phillips) Avery. Evelyn attended Brattleboro schools, graduating from Brattleboro High School, class of 1932. Following graduation, she attended and graduated from Northampton (MA) College. From college until 1940 she was employed at her father's automotive business as a bookkeeper. On May 3, 1937 in Hoosick Falls, NY she was married to Richard E. Prouty. They were happily married for 62 years until Richard's death in 1999.

Evelyn was an exceptional seamstress and a handy-work expert who was especially fond of knitting. Flower gardens and house plants were always colorful, guided by her talented green thumb.

During Richard and Evelyn's retirement they enjoyed playing golf, traveling the US and Canada on Vermont Transit Bus Tours, faithfully following the Red Sox, and each spring going to their camp in Strafford, VT to make maple syrup. She remained in Brattleboro until her health began to fail in April of 2009 at which time she moved to Bennington.

Survivors include two sons, David W. Prouty and his wife Joanne of Pownal, VT, Douglas E. Prouty and his wife Shirley of Keene, NH, four grandchildren, David, Brian, Heather and Paul, eight great-grandchildren, four nieces and one nephew.

Besides her husband, Evelyn was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Avery Healey and Marion Avery Jackson, her brother Richard G. Avery, and a grandson Ryan Prouty.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends are invited to call at the ATAMANIUK FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday from 2 to 4 P.M. for an informal gathering. Graveside committal services will take place Friday, May 3rd in the family lot in Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery.

Flowers are welcome, or memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Windham County Humane Society, PO Box 397, Brattleboro, VT 05302, or to VNA & Hospice of SVHC, 1128 Monument Ave., Bennington, VT 05201.
