BENNINGTON -- Evelyn S. Slattery, 90, a resident of South Street, died on Tuesday evening, April 4, 2006, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.

She was born in West Hartford on Feb. 6, 1916, the daughter of the late William and Grace (Coswell) Stetson. She received her education in West Hartford and Hartford High School in White River Junction.

At one time she did domestic nursing for private families. Evelyn did knitting for the Red Cross during World War II.

She married William P. Slattery in Bennington. Mr. Slattery passed away in 1969.

Like her late husband, she enjoyed fishing, and was a fan of the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers baseball teams and the Green Bay Packers football team. Evelyn was a member of the International Al Jolson Society. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens, watching “I Love Lucy” and the game shows on television. She was an avid doll collector, with several porcelain dolls in her collection. Evelyn enjoyed her pets, especially her cats.

Her family was her greatest joy.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Crawford of Bennington; her grandchildren, Mimi Crawford, Staci Crawford, Jenna Moffit and Bruce Moffit Jr. Evelyn leaves two great-gandchildren, Aliviya Nassoiy and Atheenah Nassoiy, and close friends whom she also considered family. She is predeceased by brothers and sisters.

Private burial services for Evelyn will be held at the convenience of the family at Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington.

There are no calling hours scheduled.
