Obituary Condolences

MANCHESTER CENTER -- Everett Hubert “Chief” Cole, 71, a resident of The Fields, died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.

Mr. Cole was born in Linden, N.J., on June 13, 1934, the the son of the late Everett H. and Ruth (Newman) Cole. He received his education at the Thomas A. Edison Vocational and Technical High School. Mr. Cole entered the U.S. Army in 1951 where he served in the Second Infantry Division in Korea as a light weapons infantryman. He received the Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge and the U.N. and Korean service medals. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War, American Legion Leonardo Memorial Post No. 38, and served as commander of the Bayshore, N.J., Chapter No. 76 Disabled American Veterans.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Mr. Cole is survived by his sisters, Ruth Fox of Middletown, N.J., and Joan Valente of South Pasadena, Fla.; a brother, George H. Deets III of East Dorset; a daughter, Cindy Barker of Manchester Center; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service of remembrance will be held on Monday, Oct. 17, at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel of The First Congregational Church of Manchester.
