Everett Hazen Chase 1925 - 2008 White River Jct. Everett Hazen Chase, 82, died Tuesday, May 27, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. Born on June 18, 1925, son of Lawrence Neal and Edith Hazen Chase in West Lebanon, N.H., he grew up in White River Jct. and, after his mother died at an early age, he lived on the Hazen farm in West Hartford. He graduated from Hartford High School in 1943 before serving in the Pacific Theater with the Army during World War II. He was a driver for Swift Meats in White River Jct. before working as a bookkeeper at Twin State Sand and Gravel in West Lebanon. He later worked at the First National Bank in White River Jct. and then for 22 years at Dartmouth College before retiring as manager of Endowment Funds Accounting in 1990. Mr. Chase was a lifelong member of the White River Junction United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee and on many committees. He was also active in the Masons as a member of the United Brethren Lodge 21 F&AM where he was a Past Master as well as the longest sitting secretary of any lodge in the state of Vermont. He also served as District Deputy Grand Master of District 1 Masons of Vermont. He was a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 2571, and American Legion Post 26 both in White River Jct., Hartford Lodge 1541 B.P.O.Elks and Trout Unlimited. He served as Town Auditor for the Town of Hartford for over 25 years and was treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce. In his younger years, he enjoyed golf, fly-fishing, skiing and working around his yard and the pool. In more recent years, he enjoyed volunteering at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. His wife, the former Doris "Dee" Hoisington, whom he married Feb. 18, 1951 in Manchester, died May 2007. He leaves two daughters, Pamela DeTore and her husband James, of Westwood, Mass., and Carol Cronce and her husband, Neal, of Rochester, Vt.; two grandchildren, Samantha and Ian DeTore both of Westwood; three sisters, Norma Adams of White River Jct., Eleanor Bradbury of South Burlington, and Elizabeth Stacy of Brattleboro, as well as many nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends may call at the White River Jct. United Methodist Church on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 3 at the church. Committal services will follow in the Hartford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Brethren Lodge 21 F&AM, Attn: Treasurer, 544 Sykes Mountain Avenue, White River Jct., VT 05001.
