MANCHESTER VILLAGE -- Florence A. Plunkett, a resident of Manchester Village, passed away suddenly on March 21, 2007.

She was born in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 4, 1928, the daughter of Frederick and Florence Altemus. She attended Holy Cross Academy and Georgetown Visitation Junior College. She married Robert W. Plunkett in June 1948; he predeceased her on April 5, 1996. She resided in Troy, N.Y., from 1948 to 1972, then in Centerville, Ohio, from 1972 to 1984 and then in Manchester.

A consummate volunteer, she was trustee of Manchester Village and a member and assistant treasurer of the Board of Governors of Ekwanok Country Club. Always very involved in her church, St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, she served as a Eucharistic minister, delivered communion to residents at Equinox Terrace. She was the regent of the church’s Catholic Daughters of America chapter. She was a member of Manchester Garden Club and past president of the Green Mountain Girls. Additional activities included serving as president of Equinox on the Battenkill and president of the Mothers Association at the Albany Academy and the Miami Valley School in Dayton, Ohio.

She is survived by a daughter and three sons: Suzanne P. Peacock (Rolland) of Goshen, N.Y.; Robert W. Plunkett Jr. (Eileen) of Bennington, Brian W. Plunkett (Abbie) of Dayton, and Charles A. Plunkett of Boston. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, a brother, Lawrence Altemus of Saranac Inn, N.Y., and a sister, Dorothy Martin of West Palm Beach, Fla. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son Frederick, who died in 1971, her brothers Frederick and Frank, and sisters Frederila and Frances.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 26, 2007, at St. Paul’s Church in Manchester. The Rev. John Whalen, pastor of St. Paul’s, and the Rev. Julien LaFlamme will officiate. Burial will be private. Friends may call at the Brewster Funeral Home, 34 Park Place, in Manchester on Sunday, March 25, 2007, from 4 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Florence’s memory to St. Paul’s Catholic Church, The Frederick A. Plunkett Memorial Hockey Award at the Albany Academy or the Manchester Health Center c/o Brewster Funeral Service, P.O. Box 885, Manchester, VT 05255.
