Florence Evelyn Baker

1918-2013 Florence Evelyn Baker, 95, a former resident of Homestead Green and The Watson House both in North Bennington. Florence went to live with her daughter in Colchester, VT the end of February. Then she went to the VT Respite House, Williston, in August where she struggled with life until the end. Florence died Friday September 20, 2013. Florence was born in White Creek, New York June 7, 1918. She was the daughter of the late Melvin and Elisa (Colby) LeBarron. Florence received her education in White Creek, NY. She married Frederick Baker on March 2, 1941 at Saint Peter's Church in Bennington. They were married for 58 years. Mr. Baker died May 13, 1999. In earlier years Florence was employed at the Polygraphic in North Bennington and the EZ Mill in Bennington. For 20 years Florence worked at Tansitor Electronics in Bennington from which she retired. Florence was a member of Saint Peter's Episcopal Church in Bennington. She was an avid reader and enjoyed walking. She especially enjoyed spending time on Lake Cossayuna, NY with family, where she and her husband had a cottage. Florence also had fun snowmobiling and boating. Survivors include her children, Wayne Baker of Rutland, VT and Lynn Clayton of Colchester, VT. Five grandchildren, David, Myra and Seth Clayton and Christopher and Timothy Baker; five great grandchildren, three sisters; Sue DeMarsico of North Bennington, Olive Chesbro of Cambridge, NY and Janet Burke of Greenwich, NY and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by four brothers, Daniel LeBarron Sr., Jay LeBarron, Ralph LeBarron and Loren LeBarron and two sisters, Bessie Hill and Edith Hunt. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Monday, September 23 at 2:00pm friends and family may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home an hour before at 1:00 p.m. The burial will take place in the family lot in Hinsdillville Cemetery in North Bennington. If friends desire contributions in memory of Florence Evelyn Baker they may be made to The Bennington Rescue Squad through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
