EAST ARLINGTON -- Florence Bromley Grout, 92, a resident of East Arlington passed away on Monday evening Sept. 10, 2007, at her home. Mrs. Grout was born at home in East Arlington on Jan. 29, 1915, she was the youngest daughter of Orson and Bertha (Barney) Bromley. She was a graduate of Arlington Memorial High School and Rutland Business College. She was married to Maynard W. Grout on Oct. 11, 1934, in Hampton, N.Y.

Florence was a member of the United Methodist Church and was active in the Enterprise Woman’s Group of the Federated Church of East Arlington. She was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star. During World War II, she was employed by the Mack Molding Company in Arlington. In addition to caring for her family, she enjoyed working in her garden and was particularly proud of her berry patch, she was also an avid coin collector.

She leaves her husband of nearly 73 years, Maynard W. Grout of East Arlington; her daughter and son-in-law Deronda and Robert Yost of Stonington, Conn.; her daughter Barbara Brophy of East Arlington and her daughter Dianne Hosley of Arlington; her seven grandchildren Andrea Brophy Coolidge, Jennifer Brophy, Kimberly Yost McLean, Bradford Scott Brophy, Terry James Hosley III, Michael Hosley and Amanda Hosley Realmuto and ten great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by an infant daughter Phyllis; her son-in-law Gary Brophy and granddaughter Karen Yost Moran.

A service to celebrate the life of Florence will be held on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 4 p.m. at The Federated Church of East Arlington with the Rev. Kathleen Clark, pastor officiating. A time of fellowship and refreshment will follow in the church’s Bailey Hall. Interment will take place on Friday morning Sept. 14, at 10 a.m. at the family lot in the South Village Cemetery in East Dorset. Should friends desire memorial gifts in memory of Mrs. Grout may be made to the Arlington Rescue Squad in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 528, Arlington, Vt. 05250.
