Florence Lee Henry

1920 - 2010 BENNINGTON, VT Florence Lee Henry, 89, of Coolidge Highway in Guilford, died Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 13, 2010, at the Centers for Living & Rehabilitation where she had been a resident for the past three and one half years.

Mrs. Henry was born in Brookfield on April 28, 1920, daughter of Elroy and Jenny Lee Coffin. She was raised and educated in Brookfield and Guilford, later graduating from Spaulding High School in Barre, Class of 1938.

For many years, she owned and operated a gift shop on the Lone Elm Farm on Route 5 in Guilford, known as the last stand in Vermont.

Mrs. Henry was a devoted homemaker whose life centered around her family. She enjoyed flowers, especially roses, and square dancing as a member of the former Green Mountain Squares. On Dec. 17, 1938, at her father's home in Guilford, she married Gilford Henry, who prececeased her.

She leaves two sons, Robert Henry and wife, Sue, of Rochester, N.Y., and James Henry of Guilford; two daughters, Betty Kay Taylor of Bennington and Joanne Prouty and husband, David, of Pownal; seven grandchildren, Daniel and Stephanie Taylor of Northwood, Ohio, Stephen and Patricia Taylor of Newington, Conn., Robert Henry of Rochester, N.Y., Julie and Timothy Hahn of Watsworth, N.Y., David and Michelle Prouty of Bennington, Brian and Melissa Prouty of Shaftsbury, and Heather and Todd Steinhoff of Pownal. Additionally, she leaves 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one sister, Vivian Gray, and five brothers, Eston, Ray, Bernal, Elroy and Lawrence Coffin.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the ATAMANIUK FUNERAL HOME. Burial in the Henry lot in Christ Church Cemetery will take place in the springtime when the cemetery reopens.

Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the start of the services.
