TOWNSHEND -- Florence Taylor Hicks, 85, a resident of the Hilltop House in Brattleboro, died peacefully Dec. 4, 2007, at Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend. Florence was born in Jacksonville on Nov. 23, 1922, the daughter of Watson Tuttle and Alice (Taylor)(Hayton) Hicks.

Florence resided in Jacksonville for most of her life until moving to the Hilltop House in 1996. Florence worked at the Corse Family Farm in Whitingham from 1957 to 1980 furnishing assistance and domestic help including child care. Florence was a school bus driver for many years and personally provided the elderly with transportation to many doctor appointments.

She loved to cook, especially bake and frequently provided food to those less fortunate than herself. She was very dedicated to her family and church family and enjoyed playing the organ and singing hymn’s with her church members. She enjoyed letter writing to her friends and in her earlier years was a member of the 4-H Club in Jacksonville.

Florence is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Carleton Hicks, Victor Hayton, Neva (Hayton) Corse, Alice (Hicks) (Holden) (Dennington) Willey and Everett Hicks.

Funeral services for Florence will be held Saturday morning Dec. 8, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the Covey & Allen Funeral Home 44 East Main Street Wilmington. Pastor Mark King will conduct the service. There are no visiting hours. Following cremation, interment in the family lot in Sadawga Cemetery will take place at the convenience of the family.
