1922 - 2015 BENNINGTON Mrs. Florence Santo, age 93, widow of Carl N. Santo and resident of the Vermont Veterans Home and formerly of Washington Ave. in Bennington, died on Wednesday evening, November 18, 2015. Born in Bennington, VT on November 7, 1922 she was the daughter of the late Morgan and Helen (Mort) Bridge. She received her education in Bennington and was a graduate of the former Bennington High School class of 1941. She married Carl Santo in Bennington at the First United Methodist Church on June 19, 1948. Mr. Santo predeceased her on February 17, 2011. During World War II, Mrs. Santo was employed as a switchboard operator for New England Telephone. She later worked on the switchboard at Putnam Memorial Hospital. She retired after many years of working in the Bennington school system. She owned and operated a seamstress business which she continued to operate in her retirement. Florence was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Bennington and a member of Circle 3 at the church. She had served on the administrative board at the church in earlier years. Survivors include her children, a son and daughter-in-law, Nicholas C. Santo and Susan Marchant of South Burlington, VT and a daughter and son-in-law, Carol S. and Odell Johnston of Pittsford, VT, two grandchildren, one great-grandson, a niece and cousins. Mrs. Santo was predeceased by her brother, Charles Bridge and his wife Norma. SERVICES: A memorial service will be held at the Vermont Veterans Home Chapel in the spring 2016. At Florence's request, there will not be any calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vermont Veterans Home Residence Activities Fund through the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
