Floyd C. "Hicky" Woodard

1940-2014 ARLINGTON Floyd C. "Hicky" Woodard, 73, a resident of Route 7A in Arlington died Tuesday July 8, 2014 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a brief illness. He was surrounded by his loving family. The son of Ernest and Grace Bushee Woodard, he was born in Sandgate on August 10, 1940. He received his education in Sandgate and Yorktown Heights, N.Y., and attended classes at Southern Vermont College. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Floyd adored children, and for over 30 years he had been a school bus driver for Arlington School District and Dufour, safely transporting children of several generations. Floyd had also worked at Arlington Memorial High School, and as a bookkeeper for the IGA in East Arlington. He served his town on the Arlington Rec. Park Board, Arlington Rescue Squad and was a member of the American Legion Post 69. Floyd was a dedicated family man. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he was happiest watching them have fun. He also enjoyed helping people, following NASCAR and rooting for his driver #24 Jeff Gordon, watching wildlife, attending local sporting events, and bowling. He leaves his wife, Dolores Alford Woodard, who he married August 15, 1970; his son, Thomas and wife, Carrie Woodard of Bennington; daughter, Valene and husband, Aaron Gallett of Arlington; brother, Richard "Sonny" Woodard of Yorktown, N.Y.; sisters, Phyllis "Tooty" Tompkins of Mahopac, N.Y. and Helen Oubina of Shrub Oak, N.Y.; grandchildren, Jacob and Cobie Gallett, Hunter and Jasmine Sherman; nieces, nephews, cousins; and his beloved dog, Penny. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 11 at 2 p.m. at the ARLINGTON CHAPEL OF THE HANSON WALBRIDGE SHEA FUNERAL HOME with Reverend Thomas Mattison officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from noon until 2 p.m. Burial will take place in St. Columbans Cemetery.
