Frances Mears Blake

1929-2013 BENNINGTON Mrs. Frances Mears Blake, 83, a longtime resident of Fillmore St. in Bennington, Vt., died Monday February 25, 2013 at her residence surrounded by her family.

She was born in Bennington May 17, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Clyde and Florence (Ward) Mears. Frances received her education in Bennington and was a graduate of Saint Joseph's Business College.

She married Hiram Blake January 3, 1949 in Bennington. Mr. Blake survives.

In earlier years Frances was employed at the Bell Laundry, BenMont Paper Company and for twenty five years had been employed at the Union Carbide Corporation from which she retired.

Frances was an avid genealogist. She was able to trace her ancestry back to 1638 when her family arrived aboard the Abigail. Frances enjoyed traveling with the senior citizens group, where she met many friends. In her younger years she enjoyed playing the steel guitar. Her home and family were her main interests.

Survivors besides her husband include two daughters and sons-in-law: Marlene Blake Restino and Paul of Bennington, and Linda Blake Bishop and Kevin of Manchester, Vt. Frances leaves eleven grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She also has two brothers: Clyde Mears and wife Shirley of Pownal and Milo Mears of Bennington and two sisters: Lois Weaver, and Harold of Bennington, and Lila McCoy of Bare Foot Bay, Florida, as well as several nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Services will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013 at 12 p.m. at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, in Bennington with Pastor Joel Tibbits officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery in Bennington.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday morning, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
