1925 - 2015 BENNINGTON Frances O. (Fran) Gordon, 89, widow of Herbert S. Gordon, a former resident of North Adams, Williamstown, Sun City, Fla. and Bennington, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2015 at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness. Born in North Adams, MA on Oct. 8, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Gunner and Mina (Larsen) Olson. Fran received her education in the North Adams schools and was a 1943 graduate of Drury High School. Fran and Herb were married in North Adams on June 28, 1947. They resided in Williamstown for many years before retiring to Sun City, Fla. In the late 1990's Herb and Fran moved to Bennington to reside near their daughter, Marilyn, and her family. Herb died July 7, 2000. Fran was a devoted homemaker, a Girl Scout leader in her earlier years, and did volunteer work at North Adams Regional Hospital for many years. She was a member of the former Universalist Church of North Adams for many years. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Barton Dick of Lexington, VA and Marilyn and Michael Silver of North Bennington; five grandchildren, Tami (Polakiewicz) Galik, Barbara (Polakiewicz) Neel, Robert F. Silver, Geoffrey G. Silver and Rebecca Silver and seven great-grandchildren. Fran was predeceased by a granddaughter, Melissa Polakiewicz and a sister, Virginia E. Blanchard. FUNERAL NOTICE: Memorial services celebrating Fran's life will be held at the Mahar &Son Funeral Home in Bennington on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. with the Rev. Penny Rich Smith, pastor of the North Bennington Congregational Church, officiating. Friends are invited to pay respects to the family at the funeral home from 7 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family at Southview Cemetery in North Adams.
