1924 - 2015 BENNINGTON Frances J. Hoyt, 90, a resident of Beech St. died peacefully Monday July 6, 2015 at the Center for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington. She was born in Bennington, VT September 15, 1924. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Robinson) Hoyt. A lifelong resident of Shaftsbury, VT until the family homestead was sold in 1994. Frances lived with and cared for her beloved mother until her death in 1989. She had numerous friends in Shaftsbury and was very fond of the older residents and children. Frances was a 1942 graduate of North Bennington High School and later graduated from St. Joseph's Business College in 1944 as a legal secretary and accountant. She was employed for 28 years as a Legal Secretary to Victor Agostini, a well- known local attorney until his death in 1971. Thereafter she worked in various legal fields. She loved legal work where she made many friends. She was also a Notary Public and prepared many federal and state tax returns. She was a devout member of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington until 1994 when she moved to Bennington and attended Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church. Survivors include two sisters, Mary Holden of Bennington and Aileen Luke and her husband, Burt of Hoosick Falls, NY along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by three brothers, George, Leon and Frederick Hoyt and a sister, Rita Mattison. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 11 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. If friends desire contributions in memory of Frances J. Hoyt may be made to the Second Chance Animal Shelter through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
