BENNINGTON -- Frances M. Bolza, 88, a resident of Fillmore Pond in Bennington and formerly of Pittsfield, Mass., died Monday April 19, 2004 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a brief illness.

She was born in Pittsfield, Mass. on Oct. 17, 1915. She was the daughter of the late Frederic and Lillian (Munson) Manvel. She received her education in Pittsfield and was a 1933 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She later graduated from Framingham State Teachers College.

She was married to William F. Bolza. Mr. Bolza died in June 1955.

Frances was a home economics teacher at the New Lebanon High School, New Lebanon, N.Y. for many years from which she retired. She later worked in the mortgage department at the Berkshire County Savings Bank in Pittsfield.

She enjoyed gourmet cooking, reading and playing bridge.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Bolza and his wife Dianne of Bennington and William Bolza and his wife Susan of Chelmsford, Mass.; six grandchildren: Carolyn Bosco of Berlin, Conn., Debbie Bolza of Chelmsford, Mass., Beth Cote of Savoy, Mass., Kristin Bolza of Winthrop, Mass., David Bolza of Chelmsford and Richard W. Bolza of Bennington; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Wright Manvel, and a sister, Margaret Manvel.

A graveside committal service will be held at the Pittsfield Cemetery, Pittsfield, Mass., Saturday May 8, 2004 at 11 a.m.

A reception will follow at the ITAM Club in Pittsfield.

There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Mrs. Frances M. Bolza may be made to the Vermont Chapter of the American Heart Association through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
