Frances M. Stockman

1922 - 2014 BENNINGTON Frances M. Stockman, 91, a longtime resident of Bennington, Vt., died Saturday, April 5, 2014, at her residence, surrounded by her family. She was born in Chicago, Ill., June 6, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Charles D. and Frances E. Palmer Quirk. She graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in Davenport, Iowa. She married Chester E. Stockman on Oct. 25, 1941, in Chicago. Mr. Stockman died Oct. 3, 2013. Frances had been employed as a bookkeeper for the Garrison Corporation and later at HM Tuttle in Bennington. Frances was a member of the Bennington Lions Club and the Bennington Friends of the Retarded. She taught religious education and was a member of the Liturgical Council at Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church. In earlier years she had been a volunteer with the Girl Scouts. She was an avid Bridge player and enjoyed reading. Survivors include three children, Ruth E. "Betsy" Rattelle (Jean) of Bennington, Eileen S. Dick (James) of Rutland, and George B. Stockman (Patricia) of Collierville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, Cathy Scribner and Eileen Main of Bennington, Amy Sinclair of Portland, Maine, John Ratelle of Eagle Bridge, N.Y., Maureen Bennett of Litchfield, N.H., Suzanne Buckley of Ludlow, Vt., Andrew Dick of Brattleboro, Vt., Brook Abellada of Simpsonville, S.C., and Michael Stockman of West Allis, Wis. Her 17 great grandchildren, Abby and Carli Scribner, Rylee Sinclair, Nicole, Jake, and Max Ratelle, Miles, Madison, and Will Main, Yvette and Colby Bennett, Kathryn and Joshua Buckley, Emilia and Alexander Dick, and Nathan and Reece Abellada, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Frances Judy Sinclair; a son, William Joseph Stockman; a sister, Ruth Myers, and two brothers, Arthur and Charles Quirk. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial mass will be held on Friday, April 11 at 11:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church. The burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington. If friends desire, contributions in memory of Frances M. Stockman may be made to either the Bennington Free Library (Vermont Room) or the SVMC Visiting Nurses and Hospice through the office of the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
