Francis E. Brunina 1920-2010 BENNINGTON Francis E. Brunina, 90, a former long time resident of Bradford Street and more recently of Cora B. Whitney Apartments, died Monday, September 13, 2010 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a brief illness. Born in Bennington September 12, 1920, he was the son of the late Francis P. and Mabel (Sweet) Brunina. He received his education in the Bennington schools and was a 1939 graduate of Bennington High School. Francis was a World War II Army veteran, serving in England with the 8th Army Air Corps. He married the former Ruth Paddock in Bennington on April 6, 1942. Ruth died in 1970. For over 40 years Francis was employed at the Grand Union supermarket in both Bennington and Williamstown as the produce manager. A long time member of VFW Post 1332 in Bennington, he served as Post Commander in 1964-65. He also was a member of American Legion Post 13, Francis enjoyed camping, playing cards and afternoon rides. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and James Snead of North Topsail Beach, North Carolina, Patricia and Ernest Carpenter of Bennington and Barbara and Daniel Sunkes of Grafton, New York; two grandchildren, Michelle Woodburn and Christopher Snead; his loving companion, Charlotte Morrill of Bennington; a brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Terry Brunina of Bennington; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Francis was predeceased by three sons, Robert, William and Donald Brunina and by a sister, Velma Harris. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 11 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. There will be no calling hours. Burial with military honors will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. Should friends desire memorial contributions in Francis Brunina's memory may be made to either the Vermont Heart Association or the Multiple Dystrophy Association through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
