Obituary Condolences

DORSET -- A service of thanksgiving for the life of Francis Daniel O’Leary was held at the United Church of Dorset- East Rupert on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007. The Rev. Dr. James Gray was the celebrant and Jane Wood served as organist. The special readings offered were Psalm 121, read by Sid Staunton, John 14:1-6 read by Cindy O’Leary and John 3:16 recited by the Rev. Gray. Two very special poems, “Nothing Ever Dies” and “Life Is Eternal,” both by Helen Steiner Rice, were read by Debbie Maskiel and Peggy Lyon. A celebration of memories of Francis was given to the congregation by the Rev. Gray, who recited a poem he wrote for Francis, Francis’s daughter Linda O’Leary and Howard Coolidge. Numerous other friends and relatives shared their memories of Francis as well. The Congregation joined together in singing the hymns “Amazing Grace,” “For the Beauty of the Earth, and “O God, Our Help in Ages Past.” The congregation also did a unison reading of Psalm 23. A special hymn, “Through the Eyes of a Child,” was sung by Sally Wicks and Howard Coolidge.

Serving as pallbearers were Donald Badger, Franklin Bovey, Larry Bovey, Linwood Bovey, Arthur Mattison and Bruce Mattison. Honorary pallbearers were Ryan Downey, Platt Herrick Jr., Russell Kelly, Peggy Abbott Lyon, Burr Sprague, Mary Sprague, Howard Towsley and Fred Herrick (in absentia).

Daniel Francis O’Leary passed away at his home on Jan. 1, 2007, at the age of 80.
