1936 - 2015 BENNINGTON Francis Earl Dunbar passed away January 3, 2016 following a long illness. He was the son of the late Earl Francis and Alice Mae (Whitcomb) Dunbar of Quechee, VT. He was born March 19, 1936 in Hanover, NH. He married Jannette Edythe Astbury on January 25, 1957. They lived most of their married life in Quechee, VT having moved to Bennington in 2010. Francis retired from DCI Saw Mill in 1998 where he had worked as a board sawyer. He was also the sexton of the Quechee Cemetery for many years. Francis worked for many years for Harold Eastman at the Quechee Fells Farm in addition to his full time work. Francis was happiest when he was working hard. When he could be convinced to take time off work, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking. He loved to tinker in the garage and fix things and working with his Kubota tractor. He built a summer camp on Lake Francis in Pittsburg, NH with just a hand saw and a hammer which his family enjoyed for many years until it sold. Francis is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, Jannette, his son, Stuart Dwayne Dunbar and his long-time partner, Bobbie Jo Barrett of Hartland, VT. Francis has one daughter Danelle Marie Cameron and her husband, James B. Cameron of Bennington, VT. He is survived by four grandchildren: Travis D. Dunbar of Auburn , ME, Matthew J. Dunbar of Hartland, VT, Bradley J. Cameron of Bristol, VT and Jaime L. (Cameron) Wiley of Shaftsbury, VT. He also leaves three great-grandchildren; Samantha Dunbar, Ethan Dunbar, and Emily Dunbar. Most of his family was able to be with him the day he departed. Francis was one of four children and is survived by his brother, Paul A. Dunbar of Ludlow, VT and a sister, Diane A. Dunbar of Barre, VT. He is predeceased by his brother, Roger O. Dunbar of Quechee, VT. SERVICES: Francis will be cremated and a graveside ceremony will take place in the late spring at the Quechee Cemetery.
