NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Francis J. Jozefiak, 85, of 44 Apache Dr., formerly of Adams, died Thursday morning, Dec. 20, 2007, at the North Adams Regional Hospital shortly after being admitted.

Born in Adams on Aug. 3, 1922, son of the late John and Mary Lewczak Jozefiak, he attended Adams schools and graduated from the former Adams Memorial High School in 1939. Mr. Jozefiak worked for the General Electric Co. in Pittsfield in plant engineering as a draftsman for 40 years, retiring in 1985.

He was a World War II U.S. Air Force veteran, serving in Japan and the Mariana Islands in the Pacific Theater as a navigator. Mr. Jozefiak moved to North Adams in 1997. He was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs and St. Thomas Aquinas in Adams. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed taking walks in the woods. His wife, the former Margaret DeBlois, whom he married on April 22, 1946, died Nov. 6,1990.

He is survived by one daughter, Mary Dabrowski and her husband John of Adams; three sons, Michael Jozefiak and his wife Karol of Hubbardston, David Jozefiak and his wife Nicole of Pownal, Vt., and Richard Jozefiak of Bridgewater Corners, Vt.; a brother, John Jozefiak of Adams; a sister, Florence Jones of North Adams; nine grandchildren, Sally Dabrowski, Megan Dabrowski, Jamie Jozefiak, Cory Jozefiak, Amanda Jozefiak, Callie Jozefiak, Emma Jozefiak, Melissa Malloy, and Anna Dodge; three great-grandchildren, Katie Malloy, Jack Dodge, Emily Dodge, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters, Anna Pszeniczny, Stella Duda, Celia Gebauer, and Kazimiera Bialas, and four brothers, Walter Jozefiak, Stanley Jozefiak, Casimer Jozefiak, and Joseph Jozefiak.

The funeral for Francis J. Jozefiak will take place Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at 9 a.m. from the Trottier Pringle Funeral Home, 6 Summer St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Notre Dame Church in Adams. The liturgy will be celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Catholic community of Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Donations in his memory may be made to the Adams Ambulance Fund or the Northern Berkshire Santa Fund through the funeral home.
