Francis N. "Red" LaCroix

1936-2013 POWNAL Francis N. "Red" LaCroix, 77, a resident of Route 346 died unexpectedly Thursday, November 28, 2013 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. He was born in Bennington, Vt. June 5, 1936. He was the son of the late Paul and Evelyn (Gauthier) LaCroix. Francis received his education in Bennington where he attended Saint Francis de Sales Academy and was a 1955 graduate of Bennington High School. Following his senior year "Red" represented the state of Vermont in the Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl where he scored the winning touchdown against the state of New Hampshire. Francis served in the Air Force. In earlier years Francis was employed at the Grand Union in Bennington. He enjoyed reading, especially about history and geology. Survivors include two daughters; two sisters, Pauline White and her husband Roger of Bennington and Jacqueline Connell and her husband Jack of British Columbia; a sister-in-law, Margaret LaCroix of Bennington; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by two sons, Eric and Chad LaCroix and a brother Roland LaCroix. A memorial mass will be held at Saint Francis de Sales Church in Bennington at a time to be announced in the spring. If friends desire contributions in memory of Francis N.
