Francis J. McLaughlin
1933-2010 BENNINGTON Mr. Francis J. McLaughlin, 77, a loving husband and resident of Bennington, died Friday, May 21, 2010, following a long battle with Parkinson Disease.
Born in Newark, N.J., on Feb. 25, 1933, the son of the late Francis J. McLaughlin Sr. and Mildred Moriarty McLaughlin, Francis received his education in New Jersey and was a graduate of Seton Hall Prep School. He was a 1955 graduate of Marquette University.
On Aug. 27, 1955, he was commissioned into the Marine Corp where he served as a marine infantry officer. In 1978 Francis graduated with a Masters Degree from Pepperdine University.
In 1992, he married Roberta Faxon in Belmar, N.J.
Francis, was employed as the Director of the Economic Development Council of Puget Sound in Seattle, Wash. He later became Vice President of Operations for Photon Sciences, Inc. in Bothel, Wash. Francis later took a position as the director of the Southwest Trade Adjustment Assistance Center in San Antonio, Texas, until 1990, when he took a position as a consultant and associate director of the New Jersey Trade Adjustment Assistance Center in Trenton, N.J.
Francis enjoyed mountain biking, fishing, parachuting, and was a certified scuba diving instructor. He was a member of the Bennington Lodge of Elks and a dedicated life member of the Marine Corp. League, where he received the Military Order of The Devil Dogs. He was honored with Marine of the Year in 1995.
He leaves his wife, Roberta Faxon McLaughlin of Bennington; stepson, Michael Faxon and his wife, Elizabeth, of New Jersey; granddaughter, Hannah Ling Faxon of Vermont; and a sister, MaryAnn McLaughlin of Washington State.
Francis had a way of making people feel special and had an extreme gift of helping others.
Mr. McLaughlin's request was to donate his body to the University of Vermont Medical Center Anatomical Gifts Program.
MEMORIAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be held at a later date for close friends and family.
