Francis J. "Mac" McLaughlin
1933-2010 Francis J. McLaughlin, 77, passed away May 21, 2010, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.
"Mac" as he was known, was born Feb. 25, 1933, in Newark, N.J., to Francis J. and Mildred Moriarty McLaughlin. He graduated from Seton Hall Preparatory School, where he excelled in swimming, and earned a B.A. from Marquette University in 1955. He earned an MBA from Pepperdine University in 1978.
He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Marine Corps in August 1955.
After his Marine Corps service, Mac had a long career in marketing, financial management, and trade and economic development. His career took him to a number of states, including Illinois, California, Washington, Texas and New Jersey. He retired as a Consultant from the State of New Jersey Trade Adjustment Assistance Center.
Among Mac's interests were scuba diving, mountain biking and sky diving. Mac was a certified scuba instructor. He was particularly proud of his service in the Marine Corps and was a member of the Marine Corps League, where he was named Marine of the Year in 1995. Mac was also a member of the Bennington Lodge B.P.O.E.
Mac married Marjorie K. Burington in 1955, and together they had seven children. He was married to Janice E. Shelby from 1976 to 1988, and in 1992, he married Roberta A. Faxon.
Mac leaves his wife, Roberta McLaughlin of Bennington; and his children, F. Joseph McLaughlin III of Lynnwood, Wash., Mary Ann (Erik Kjellstrom), Patricia, Therese and John McLaughlin, all of San Diego, Calif., and Katherine Bess (Michael), of Parker, Colo. Grandchildren are Matthew and Jonathan McLaughlin, Morgaine Farrell, and Dillon and Margaux Bess.
He is also survived by his sister, Mary Ann McLaughlin of Kennewick, Wash.; niece, Carol McLaughlin, of Cranford, N.J.; nephew, James McLaughlin, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; stepson, Allan M. Faxon Jr. (Nancy), of Manchester, Vt., and their children, Danielle, Allan, Ethan, David and Hannah; stepson, Michael Faxon (Elizabeth), Jersey City, N.J., and former stepson, Ronald Shelby, Galveston, Texas.
Mac was predeceased by his parents; his son, Michael; brother, John; and nephew, Kevin McLaughlin.
