Francis Raymond Saunders

1942-2012 BENNINGTON Francis Raymond Saunders, a lifelong resident of Bennington and a resident of Holden Street, passed away on his birthday, Monday December 17, 2012 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

Francis was born in Bennington on December 17, 1942 the son of Raymond Francis and Dortha (Baker) Saunders Loveland and attended Bennington schools. Francis went to work for Bennington Iron Works and then owned and operated Fran's Appliance Service as an electrical appliance repairman for forty years. He was a member of the Army National Guard and a member of the First Baptist Church of Hoosick Falls where he formerly served as Deacon. Francis was a die hard New York Yankee fan. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was intersected in Indian Culture and enjoyed fishing and camping. Francis was a devoted son, husband, father and grandfather who cherished times spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Francis took pleasure in helping others and will always be remembered as a wonderful man.

Francis is survived by his wife the former Arleen Pratt whom he married in North Bennington on September 26, 1964, his children Wendy Larson and her husband Jim of Hoosick Falls, New York, Rodney Saunders and his wife Nancy of Bennington, Francis "Frank" Saunders Jr. and his wife Anne of Pownal, and Jeffrey Saunders and his wife Erin of Bennington, his brother Steve Saunders of Texas, his sisters Linda Runyon of Texas, Shirley Lincourt and her husband Chip, Betty White and her husband Steve and Gail Taglione and her husband Joe of Florida, his grandchildren, Justin, Andrew and Karley Morin, James Larsen IV, Seth LeBlanc, Kaitlyn and Colby Saunders, Korinne, McKenzie, Haley and Corbin Saunders and Kourtney and Hannah Saunders, his great granddaughter Maddison Morin his special brother-in-law Donald P. Morse and many special brother-in-laws and close friends. He was preceded in death by his sister Kay Watson.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Francis will be held Friday afternoon December 21, 2012 at 2pm at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home 213 West Main Street Bennington, Vermont. Rev. Dale Hall from the First Baptist Church of Hoosick Falls will officiate. Interment will follow in the family lot in Parklawn Cemetery in Bennington. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be held Thursday evening December 20, 2012 from 6-8pm when the family will be in attendance.
