Francis Willette "Bud" 1927-2012 POWNAL Francis "Bud" Willette, 84, a resident of Barber Pond Road in Pownal, Vt., died Monday March 5, 2012 at the Rutland Regional Medical Center in Rutland, Vt., following a long illness. He was born at the family farm in North Pownal, Vt., August 11, 1927. He was the son of the late George H. and Antoinette (Brothers) Willette. Bud received his education in North Pownal and in 1944 joined the United States Army Air Corp serving until 1947. He married the former Penny Marchegiani on October 8, 1983. For thirty four years Bud was employed as a regional tractor trailer driver for General Cable in Williamstown, Mass., from which he retired in 1989. Bud was a bass player, singer, and leader of several local bands. Among these were The Ambassadors, and most recently the Willette Jazz Quartet. Widely known for their long standing Saturday night appearances at The Williams Inn in Williamstown, MA. He was also a member of the Pownal American Legion Post 90 and the North Adams VFW Post 996 Survivors include his wife Penny Willette of Pownal, Vt. His children, Stephen F. Willette and his wife Grace of Portland, Ore., Bernard F. Willette and his wife Therese of Portland, Ore., Michael F. Willette of Pownal, Vt., Kristine Williams and her husband Al of Bennington, Jeffrey F. Willette of North Adams, Neil F. Willette of Waldport, Ore., Travis L. Willette and his wife Sarah of Bennington and Tony F. Willette of Burlington, Vt. Eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by his first wife Carmela (Tassone) Willette, two sisters Jeanette Jones and Lucille (Bisson) Gravel and a brother Norman J. Willette Sr. FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Saturday March 10, 2012 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Francis "Bud" Willette will take place on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home. The burial will take place at the family lot in Oak Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. If friends desire contributions in memory of Bud may be made to the Upper Valley Hostile in Hanover, New Hampshire through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
