Frank B. "Hank" Stratton, Sr. 1930 - 2012 BENNINGTON, VT Frank B. "Hank" Stratton, Sr., 81, a resident of East Road, died unexpectedly Sunday morning, April 15, 2012, doing one of the things he enjoyed most, fishing with a friend at Lake Paran. Frank was born in Bennington on May 28, 1930, son of Smith and Anna (Montgomery) Stratton Sr. He attended schools in Woodford and Bennington, including Benn-Hi. Frank served his country during the Korean War in the Army. While in the military he met and married Gracie Holman, they enjoyed 51 years of marriage before her passing on June 3, 2005. Frank had worked throughout his life as a mason; several of those years he worked for Herbie Stratton. He was well-known throughout the community and always treated others fairly. He will be remembered as a man of integrity and honesty. He was truly a proud American and Vermonter. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing and just being in the out of doors and experiencing all of its offerings. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and playing cards, especially his Thursday cribbage games. He was baptized at the First United Methodist Church and supported the church throughout his life. Frank was a life member of American Legion Post 13, V.F. W. Post 1332, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1861 and the Moose Family Center. He leaves his son, Frank B. Stratton, Jr., and his wife, Jenn Moore Stratton, who has been a caregiver to Frank for the past few years, both of Shaftsbury; daughters, Patricia D. DeCoff of Shaftsbury, Anna M. Stratton of Bennington and Kellie L. Matthews of Bennington; brothers, John "Jack" Stratton of North Carolina and Smith Stratton Jr. of Alabama; grandchildren, Thomas J. Harrington, Serena J. Mattison, Thame H. Holland, Stephanie G. Mattison, Danielle L. Mattison, Mary "Nikki" Stratton, Amanda D. Stratton, Hunter J. Stratton, Peyton E. Stratton and Brogan F. Stratton; six great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Burt Stratton, and grandchildren, Peter E. Harrington III and Erin Michelle Stratton. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 19, at 7 p.m. at the HANSON-WALBRIDGE FUNERAL HOME. Burial with military honors will take place privately at the White Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made to the Lake Paran Association in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
