Obituary Condolences

DANBY -- Franklin S. Greene, 72, a longtime resident of Danby, died on Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at Rutland Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born in Tinmouth Aug. 14, 1931, the son of Harris and Ethel (Maranville) Greene. He grew up in the Danby area and attended local schools.

Frank proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He received a National Defense medal and was stationed in Alaska for one year. He married Phyllis (Taylor) Greene in Wallingford on Sept. 24, 1949 and together they raised a loving family in Danby. Frank worked at the Vermont Marble Quarry for 20 years and also for General Electric and then at Killington Wood Products until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the American Legion and the Mountain View Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and treasurer, taught Sunday school and recently helped with extensive renovations. In his free time Frank enjoyed woodworking and time spent with his family. He loved to sing for his church and his family, and kept right on singing until the end. His family and friends will miss the laughter Frank created.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons and their wives, Robert and Melody of Danby and Matthew and Stacey of West Rutland; his daughter Jackie and her husband Herb Hatch of Barre; his brother Walter “Smokey” Greene and his wife Midge of West Fort Ann, N.Y; two sisters, Mildred Perkins of Manchester and Ann Goodnow of Fort Edward, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren, U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Herb, U.S.A.F. Lt. Ben, and Peter Hatch, Martha Joyal, Jeffrey, Kerry, Gina, USMC Cpl. Brian, Vanessa, Jonathan, Heather and Kristin Greene; and six great-grandchildren, Elaine, Rachel, Jacob, Alyssa, Megan and Chelsea. He was predeceased by two brothers, Harris Jr. and Henry.

Friends may call Saturday, June 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brewster Funeral home in Manchester. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 27, 2 p.m. at the Mt. View Baptist Church in Danby Four Corners, with a reception to follow. Private committal will be held at the Scottsville Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
