HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Franklin Willis Danforth Sr., 86, died Thursday at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vermont. He resided on Bovie Hill Road in Hoosick Falls with his wife of sixty-six years Alyce (Covey) Danforth.

Franklin was born on Aug. 20, 1920 in Cambridge, New York son of the late Willis and Laura (Carpenter) Danforth. He was proud to know he and his twin, Forrest were the first set of twins born at the Cambridge Hospital on the new west wing that had been completed in 1919.

Franklin was a machinist at the Watervliet Arsenal for 30 years, where he was recognized for making special tool designs. He retired in 1980. Franklin served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1945, attaining the rank of Private. He was also a master carpenter, a home builder and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and taking his family on camping trips.

Survivors other than his wife Alyce include his six sons William F. (Rita) Danforth, John W. Danforth, Frank W. (Heather Conant) Danforth Jr., James A. (Laurie) Danforth, David W. (Cheryl) Danforth and Alan J. (Arthur Fitch) Danforth. Also survived by twelve grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Franklin is predeceased by his brothers, Forrest, Clifford and Stanton Danforth.

Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the service at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m.
