Fred Bishop Jr. Obituary
Fred Bishop Jr., 70, a resident of Coulter Road in Shaftsbury, VT died Tuesday December 19, 2017 at his residence following a brief illness.

He was born in Bennington, VT June 8, 1947. He was the son of the late Fred Bishop Sr. and Barbara (Beals) Bishop. He received his early education in Pownal and was a 1965 graduate of Bennington High School. He then joined the United States Army where he served in Vietnam. Pvt. Bishop, a truck driver in the 556th Transportation Company, and his unit set records delivering more than a million gallons of gasoline for vehicles used by combat units near Long Binh and chalked up over 2 million miles on the rugged roads of Vietnam delivering needed fuel and other supplies.

In earlier years Fred was employed at Dailey's. For twelve years he was employed at Fairdale Farms in Bennington hauling milk and for 30 year he worked as a Process Technician at Chem Fab in North Bennington and Saint Gobain in Merrimack, New Hampshire from which he retired. His greatest joy was moving back to Vermont, getting on his tractor and haying with his brother Keith. He married the former Sandra A. Scevotto in Shaftsbury on September 21, 1997.

Fred was a member of the American Legion Post 1332, the Moose Family Center in Bennington and the VFW. He enjoyed gardening, building stone walls, oil painting and NASCAR.

Survivors include his wife Sandra Bishop of Shaftsbury, a step daughter Corrie Corcoran and her husband Tim of Bennington; a grandchild Rylee Corcoran of Bennington. Two brothers Jim Bishop and his wife Linda of North Bennington and Keith Bishop and his wife Linda of Shaftsbury; a sister Gail Howe and her husband Jim along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his former wife Charlene Mahlmann of Dorset, VT

SERVICES: Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Wednesday December 27, from 4:00 pm until the time of the service at 6:00 pm.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Wednesday December 27, 2017 at 6:00 p.m.

The burial will take place in the family lot at Oak Hill Cemetery in Pownal, VT at the convenience of the family.
