Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Funeral services for Fred Bishop Sr. were held from the First United Methodist Church of Pownal on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, with Pastor Arnett Mathers of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Bennington officiating. Assisting in the service was the Rev. Gary Dickson, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Pownal.

Organist was Mr. Bishop’s sister-in-law, Hazel Beals. Musical selections offered during the service were “Abide With Me” and “In the Garden” played on a saw by Glee Charlestream, “Wings of a Dove” sung by Tony Greene, “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art,” both sung by the congregation and accompanied on flute by Mr. Bishop”s daughter, Gail Howe and by Jane Coulter.

Words of remembrance were offered by several family and friends including Allan Beals, John Page, Robert Mathers, Elizabeth Titus Putnam, Wanda Bezio and Gail Howe.

Bearers were five grandsons, Barry, Scott, Aaron, Justin and Joshua Bishop and a nephew, Gary Bishop. Mr. Harry Beals, a brother-in-law of Mr. Bishop, served as an honorary bearer.

Burial took place in the family lot in Oak Hill Cemetery, Pownal, with both Pastor Mathers and the Rev. Dickson offering the committal prayers.

Mr. Bishop, husband of the former Barbara Beals, a resident of Town Line Road, Bennington, died Sept. 30, 2007, at his residence.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
